Celebrating Women
6 Mar
I’m a little bit late on this subject since it’s practically a week into March but hooray for us women! Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” It has since then been expanded to a full month.
This year year’s theme of women’s history month is Women’s Education – Women’s Empowerment. Although women now outnumber men in American colleges nationwide, the reversal of the gender gap is a very recent phenomenon. The fight to learn was a valiant struggle waged by many tenacious women—across years and across cultures—in our country.
