7 Oct

Not too long ago I dropped my phone face flat on concrete. Although at the fist glance it seemed as if nothing happened, a few days later I turned my phone on to see this…..

So after a few days of having difficult doing anything on my rainbow phone, I decided it was time for an upgrade. So after much debate, I decided that I would try the new iphone. So for now it’s good bye android, hello cult…I mean iphone.

If you have any iphone must have app suggestions, I’m listening!

Searching for Sugar Man

3 Oct

There are not many movies in theaters I ever see. However, my brother recently told me about a must see movie and being a suggestion from my artistically inclined brother, I knew I could not pass this up. So I bit the bullet and paid the hefty $12 price at a NYC cinema to see Searching for Sugar Man. There is no summary I can give that would do this film justice so have a look at the trailer yourself.

Just go see it. It’s wonderful.

The song in the trailer is called I Wonder and it is absolutely wonderful. Have a listen.

Supplies Arrived!!!

25 Sep

A few days ago I posted a project that I submitted through DonorsChoose to have supplies donated to my class. After only a few hours, my vision project was quickly funded and today, during my 5th period class, my supplies arrived!!!!

I could not have been more excited, I was like a kid at Christmas accepting the boxes of supplies. I cannot wait to start setting up my class vision around the big world map I got! Check out some pictures  I took today after school. It’s obviously not anywhere near completed but  I couldn’ t wait to get it started!!

The new awesome class map!!!

Close up of map with pins of everywhere I have been. Soon to be changed to places where my students want to go!!

Getting Creative

18 Sep

As a new teacher in an incredibly underfunded high school, I have to think outside of the box to get any sort of resources for my students. Unfortunately, at my school, paper to print hand outs on is a commodity and don’t get me started on textbooks. Before I embark on a huge project of trying to acquire all these resources, I have started out small by trying to establish a source of motivation for my kids.

This school year, I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed and dream big. So I’ve created a classroom project request on a 501(c)3 charity website called

This week only, any donation you make to my project will be doubled! If you know anyone who is passionate about education, please pass this along. Your tax-deductible donation will have a direct impact on at least 140 students (and many more in the future), and you’ll hear back from our class about your impact on our learning!

To learn more or donate:

1.     Visit my Teacher Page, or my Project Page:
2.     Choose one of my projects (I only have one posted right now), enter the amount of your donation, and click “Give”
3.     During check-out, enter the word INSPIRE where it says “Match or gift code”, and your donation will be matched dollar for dollar.

The INSPIRE match code will double your donation for the next 7 days.

Please feel free to send me any questions you may have, and know that my students and I greatly appreciate your support.

This is what my vision will hopefully look like….

Day 1 Prep!!

29 Aug

Today I was focusing on creating a detailed agenda for the first day of class. I have 48 minutes to spend with students and have a lot to cover so I am mapping everything minute by minute. One of the first things I am planning to do is to introduce myself to students in the hopes that they feel they can relate to me since I once sat in a similar setting they did, not too long ago.

Because I don’t have much time to spend I was able to summarize my life in 8 slides with an additional 2 slides as intro pages. Check i out.

By the way, I purposely chose a picture of mars taken by Curiosity as my slide background. Start getting the kids thinking about Space! I am planning on having a couple minute discussion on who can guess where this picture is from!

After I get to talk all about myself, I will turn the stage to the students to share something about themselves and then we will get down to business by covering out syllabus, classroom rules, consequences and rewards system. Oh, and I am considering lighting some money on fire if I am given approval.

Sad News

Having worked in the Space Industry and being a science lover, yesterday’s news came as a sad surprise.

RIP Neil Armstrong.

Rage Against the Machine

20 Aug

This is quite possibly the best news out right now.

Tom Morello: ‘Paul Ryan Is the Embodiment of the Machine Our Music Rages Against’ | Music News | Rolling StoneLast week, Mitt Romney picked Paul Ryan, the Republican architect of Congress’s radical right-wing budget plan, as his running mate. Ryan has previously cited Rage Against the Machine as one of his favorite bands. Rage guitarist Tom Morello responds in this exclusive op-ed.

After spending some time distanced from the political chaos that has been occurring due to this years upcoming election, I am appalled to see where things have ended up. I like to leave my wildly opinionated comments out of my blog but in brief, I agree with everything that Tom Morello writes in the Rolling Stone article above.

And because I grew up listening to and loving Rage Against the Machine, here is one of their very famous songs, Bulls on Parade. Tom Morello showcases his amazing guitar skills.

Ecuador in the News!

17 Aug

So I think the following two pictures can explain what I want to write about today:

So as some of you may or may not know, I was born in Ecuador, lived there through my high school years and try to return yearly. I must say this is one of the ballsiest things my country has ever done. This and completely devaluating the currency so badly that they had to change to the dollar. Probably one of the craziest thing I have lived through.

I don’t think Assange should be persecuted by the US for exposing corruption. More power to him for trying to show people the truth. As for his rape allegations, not to undermine the situation but the timing seems a bit suspicious. In any case, Assange is stuck in the Ecuadorian embassy in London under threat of being arrested once he leaves.

The video in the link/article below I think is a good summary of the current situation and what has lead up to this. It’s not very long but very informative.

Assange stuck at Ecuador embassyat this hour, wikileaks founder julian assange remains stuck in london . yesterday, the ecuadorian government granted him asylum. he faces extradition to sweden on sexual misconduct allegations. he’s also the subject of an investigation inside the united states . assange of course published documents that expose corruption and were invoked in the arab spring.

Happy Bday America

4 Jul

Today is America’s birthday! That means there are exactly 4 months left for my birthday!!

It’s been such a busy day. I have two lesson plans due tomorrow and I swear each one takes me about 3-4 hours. One was about how to factor which I think is so much fun, and the other on finding the roots of a polynomial. The most challenging part about this whole process is figuring how to teach the material to someone that doesn’t know anything about it. In my mind, everyone knows how to factor so breaking it down is sometimes tricky. Anyway, I am done for the night…

What better way to end the day than by listening to this awesomely classic rendition of the star spangled banner performed by Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock.

Be the Change

21 Jun

Today was a long day. I started with a run around the beautiful track here at St. Johns at around 6:30am. Unfortunately after 1.5 miles me knee started to bother me. I stopped and stretched and continued to run a few more laps until the pain was too much to continue. Not sure when I will be back to pain free running but I hope it’s soon.

After that it’s been a day of intensity that finished at around 10:30pm. The only way  I can sum up today is with the following image.
